A few days ago, an aspiring author called me to get some insight on the need to start small because he was thinking of remaining in his comfort zone for fear of failure.

Today, there are many persons like that young man. They are not ready to take action or continue doing what they do because they don’t get the result they desire and don’t want to be seen as failures.

If you are such a person, this note is for you.

Let’s now go deeper.

Those big writers, authors, entrepreneurs, leaders of various successful Facebook groups, and others you hear of and admire today because of the waves they command both on social media and offline, did not become great over night. They were once like a little child who does not know how to walk. They started as writers, authors or people that no one recognised.

In the beginning when they first started, no one believed in them; no one loved to read their articles or books (not even the books they offered for free); no one cared to attend their free training let alone paid ones.

Some times for a whole year, there might not be any reasonable or even a single book sale.

At a point, the pathway seemed too rough to walk. At a point, it appeared they were just wasting their time writing and publishing or appearing on this space trying to throw the little steps they could.

But one thing kept them going. What was it? It was the fact that, a FOETUS in the womb does not become a NEW BORN in 3 weeks.

They believed that a CHILD does not become a SON in 5 years. They accepted the truth that a SEED does not begin to bear FRUITS within a month.

They knew that it requires years of consistent nurturing and development to get to maturity.

They had a vision; a future they hoped for. They were seeing beyond the present into the future. And so the hope of the bigger picture kept them going even when it seemed they were just wasting their time.

When things did not go as they expected, e.g, not making sales from their published books, not getting anyone to buy their course, pay for their classes, or even attend their free classes, etc, they never gave up. Instead, they kept going and asking relevant questions such as:

“How can I do this better? What should I be doing that I’m not doing? What better strategy can I use? Who can I meet to show me a better strategy to approach this?”

When they fell, they refused to remain on the floor. Rather than getting discouraged for not getting desired result, they got up, cleaned themselves up and kept trying again.

And today, what is the fruit of their years of learning, unlearning and relearning? What is the result of their rising and falling without giving up? What is the end point of their consistency in what they were doing even when no one recognised them?

Limelight. Yes, it is success.

Because they were not afraid of falling or ashamed of what people would say YESTERDAY, they are commanding waves as highly successful writers, authors and great business persons TODAY.

Many years ago, hardly you see two persons sign up for their classes even free ones. But today, before they mention a new product, multitude have already started to show interest or pay for it even if it costs a million dollar.

Each day, you admire them and desire to be like them. But you don’t want to start small like they did. You desire the glory they get but you forget that they have a story, a bitter one you don’t know about.

Dear potential carrier, life does not work that way. If you must let the (potential) seed of greatness in you become a fruit bearing tree, let it undergo the process of nurturing and development.

Even if you you think your work or content is already great, don’t still expect that overnight, the world will start rushing after you. They still need time to proof you. They want to confirm if you are really the person you appear to be. As they keep biting from you bit by bit and getting value, you keep gaining their trust. Your audience keep increasing. And in no distant time, you become someone that can no longer be ignored.

I will wrap up with this.

The child who refuses to learn how to stand for fear of falling will never know how to walk let alone run. Any baby who will not carry those little steps because he is afraid to fall or ashame of what people will say in case he falls will NEVER know how to walk in life. In other words, such a child will become a cripple, and a liability to humanity.

In this new week or month and always, refuse to be such a child. Instead, no matter the present condition, keep being a HAPPY BETTER YOU, unleashing your fullest potential and striving toward your best life.

This is the end of today’s edition of Monday Motivational Note. I believe it pushes you closer to your best self.
