During the yuletide, many Nigerian States will witness large presence of security personnel as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps [NSCDC] says it is set to deploy a large number of its personnel across the country in order to forestall any criminal act during the festive sesason.
The Lagos State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says it will deploy 6,000 personnel to provide security across the state during the yuletide.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by Mrs Chinyere Ekenkwo, the spokesperson of the command.
According to the statement, the State Commandant, Mr Tajudeen Balogun assured residents that his men would provide adequate security during the period.
”The command would make the Christmas and New Year celebrations crime – free in Lagos State and its environs.
”To this end, 6,000 officers of the corps will be deployed to strategic locations to watch over critical infrastructure, event centres, places of worship, government houses and black spots,” it said.
The statement further said that officers and men of the corps that were on annual leave were recalled, while all forms of leave suspended till further notice.
Also, the corps said it has deployed 3000 personnel across Kaduna State ahead of Christmas and New Year, to protect residents and critical national assets.
Modu Bunu, the NSCDC Commander in the state, said in a statement on Friday in Kaduna that the personne would specifically target street gangs, kidnappers, cattle rustlers armed robbers and those engaged in thuggery.
In the statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Ordiniir Terzungwe, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria [NAN], the commander urged residents to be security conscious.
“The command is therefore calling on members of the public to ensure and maintain vigilance and report suspected acts, gatherings, objects and persons to security agencies before, during and after the yuletide.
“On our part, I have directed a mass deployment of over 3,000 personnel comprising uniform and under-cover operatives.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Plateau Command, says it will deploy 2,021 officers and men to the 17 councils and other strategic areas avoid breach of peace during the yuletide.
Mrs Naomi Chishak, the Public Relations Officer for the Command in the state disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Jos.
According to her, most of the officers and men will be stationed within Jos-Bukuru metropolis while others would be at strategy places, such as recreational and worship centres and motor parks, to forestall any breach of law and order.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has deployed 3,500 personnel to provide security for residents of the state during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The State Commandant of the corps, Mr John Adewoye, disclosed this in Ibadan on Thursday while addressing commanders and divisional officers.
Adewoye said the decision to deploy such number of officers was to ensure adequate protection of lives and property before, during and after the festivities.
He stated that the personnel included regular and undercover officers who were assigned on 24-hour surveillance and intensive patrols.
The FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 5,000 personnel to strategic places in the territory to enhance security during the festive period.
The FCT Commandant, Mr Patrick Ukpan, announced this at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja, the command’s spokesman, Mr David Akinbinu, said in a statement.
Ukpan said that the deployment was in line with a directive from the Corps Commandant General, Mr Abdullahi Gana, to all state commands on Wednesday.
He also emphasised the need for enhanced security measures, especially in the festive periods.
