The Delta State Government through the office of the Commissioner of Higher Education Engr Jude Sinebe, and the management of the Delta State University (DELSU) has urged the general public to disregard speculation of increment in acceptance, and other school fees.
Sinebe made this known while speaking with newsmen in Asaba, stressing students’ welfare is paramount to Gov Okowa’s led administration and will never compromise quality education.
“The state government didn’t approved fees increment for Delta State University Abraka; despite the recession, the state government will not add to the burden of Deltans; we are focused and committed to creating a conducive learning environment for all and making education affordable to all Deltans.
“The Delta State University Abraka and all state-owned tertiary institutions management are advised to maintain the approved fees inclusive of acceptance fees for 2016/17 for use in 2017/18 academic session,” he said.
There had been speculations that the school management had reviewed its acceptance fee for professional courses: medicine, law, engineering, pharmacy, etc to N81,000.00.
The speculations had it that the increment was in reflective of the current economic realities and is necessary for the continuous maintenance of equipments, facilities and infrastructure even as government continues to improve and expand the already existing structures and even provide new ones.
“It is part of the University’s effort to generate funds in a bid to sustain the accreditation of the said courses. In spite of this upward review of acceptance fees for professional courses, Delta State University still ranks first among the most affordable state universities in Nigeria providing the best quality of learning, with an uninterrupted calendar as can be seen from the last strike embarked upon by ASUU, DELSU lecturers were not part of the strike action.
“The Delta state University has not increased its tuition fees. The review of its acceptance fee is only for professional courses; Medicine, Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, etc.,” the school management was reported to have said.
“It is not the intention of the Delta State government and the University Management to cause inconveniences for intending students but such review is needed to maintain the standards already set in place by the State government and the Institutions management. Lastly, DELSU’s tuition fees remain unchanged and will not be increased,” it added.
