The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Delta State University DELSU law faculty full accreditation status after meeting requirements.
Delta state Commissioner for Higher Education, Engr. Jude Sinebe who made the disclosure, said the approval for the full accreditation status was contained in a letter sent to the Ministry by the NUC.
It would be recalled the Institution’s law faculty was disapproved by the NUC in January 2016 for failing to meet certain requirements.
It was learnt that some of the requirements which the institution failed to meet at the time included the provision of computers for the faculty’s e-library, upgrading of books, provision of air conditioners for the library, the completion and furnishing of the lecture, and the moot court.
In July 2016, Vice Chancellor Victor Peretomode said the Law Faculty of the Institution has fulfilled the necessary criteria for full accreditation, and expressed hope of full accreditation by September 2016.
He said the requirements for full accreditation of the law faculty are already in place and that the university has written to the NUC to come for inspection.
“We are very hopeful the accreditation of the law programme will scale through NUC hurdles,” VC Peretomode said in July 2016.
The university authority and students of the faculty will finally breathe respite as the law faculty of the Institution as assured by the VC has been accredited finally.
Engr. Sinebe described the accreditation of the Law Faculty as a welcome development, saying that the feat was made possible by the profound support received from the State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
While expressing gratitude to the Governor for providing the enabling environment for the full accreditation, he thanked the people of Isoko Nation and Deltans in general for the achievement.
Engr. Sinebe called on the University Authority to see the feat as an additional commitment to improve on high academic demand from the institution.
