Jason Usoro is one Nigerian dancer whose resilience and doggedness made him achieve the rare feat of breaking the Guinness World Records for longest dance marathon in 2019.
Unknown to many, the talented dancer made an attempt to break the record in 2017, but he failed.
Speaking in a chat with TheNewsGuru, he said:” I got really emotional, ecstatic and overwhelmed when Guinness World Records recognized me. I recall going through a lot before, during and after the attempt. I spent one month organizing all the documents, spent 2 months uploading over 200GB of data and took twelve extra weeks to get verified. Especially the fact, I failed my first attempt in 2017, then coming back to break it is an unexplainable feeling. It’s worldwide”.
Usoro revealed that popular Nigerian dancer; Kaffy inspired him to break the record.
“I started dancing at the age of four and it’s been a part of me. I was in SS2 when I heard about Kaffy and her breaking a world record. Ever since then, I have always believed I would have one someday”.
Highlighting the challenges he encountered before breaking the record, he said: “ I experienced a lot of challenges and sacrifices were made. To attempt a record like I did, you need 24 hours power supply and a camera recording nonstop 24-7 for the whole time of the record attempt. That was why I had the attempt at Novare mall Lekki. The video footage was almost 200GB and I had to upload it all. It took me exactly two months to upload as we know the internet situation in Nigeria is not yet 100% stable. It also took me one month to organize and prepare all the documents to send to Guinness world record. It cost me a lot”.
He also disclosed that breaking the record has opened a lot of doors for him.
“It has changed my brand and opened a lot of doors for me. I have privileged to dine and sit with industry heads and many more. I will advise more Nigerians to attempt to break the record, we need more positive news coming out of Nigeria”.
