The palpable biting effect of COVID-19 on the entertainment sector cannot be overemphasized. From shows cancellations to entertainers earning little or no income, the industry has been comatose for countless months.
Popular comedian, Bennet Chinedu Daniel a.k.a Acapella has taken to his Instagram page to lament over failure of entertainers to earn money as a result of the ban of concerts, carnivals and street parties in Lagos.
Sharing his frustration via a video, the outspoken comedian said:”Since COVID-19 started, Governor Sanwoolu just banned events of not more than 50 people. We understand that you are the number one citizen of this state so you are protecting the people of Lagos. So we should die because of the outbreak of COVID-19?
Since February last year, you have kept the entertainment industry indoors.Every other sector have gone back to work. Banks have resumed, even markets are running, even children have gone back to school. When it comes to the entertainment industry, we say once the people are more than 50, it shouldn’t hold.
“Do you know how many people we employ whenever we do shows? You guys don’t create jobs you don’t know how it feels. Now as I am talking, since events have stopped being held, you are denying ushers money, you are denying food vendors money, decorators, event centres, artistes, artiste managers and content creators are being denied money. All these people have been denied income.
Eddy Griffin one of the top comedians in America is having his show this February. Or you think people cannot laugh through masks? You would say if shows are being organized people will dance and they will sweat.Don’t people dance to praise and worship in church? I am angry, you kept an entire sector indoors for a whole year”, he said.
