There was a time Nigerian stars were shunted to the sidelines when it comes to getting recognition on the global music stage. One Nigerian pop star who inadvertently has gained recognition on the global music stage is Wizkid.
Despite bagging seven nominations at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, recording countless hit songs and collaborations, playing at gigs and morphing into a continental sweetheart, Wizkid still maintains that he still has a long way to go.
The hit maker whose debut album was released in 2011, says he is still hustling and grinding.
“I am yet to accomplish my goals, I no park my jet outside. We are suffering, we are young Nigerians. We are hustling, we are grinding, but there is a long way to go” he told Hip TV.
One of the highpoints of Wizkid’s music career was when he released ‘Ojuelegba’,a mid tempo ode to the Lagos slum where he grew up . The song was listed in Rolling Stone’s 15 great albums you didn’t hear in 2014.
When it comes to collaborating with other artistes, Wizkid has done many ‘collabos’ and still willing to do more.
“I can have collaboration with anybody, even the late Michael Jackson” he said.
Harping on the kind of legacy he desires to leave, Wizkid said he wants to be an inspiration to the next generation.
“I want to inspire the next generation, because others inspired us too”.
