Nigerian comedian Uchechukwu Divine Obia, popularly known as ‘Funny Urch‘ who shot to the limelight with his POS comedic skits, in an exclusive chat with TheNewsGuru.com, TNG, Ebunoluwa Onyebuchi spoke about how top acts in the industry helped jump start his career, amongst other things.
He also spoke about his family’s initial reluctance to support him at the beginning of his career.
The computer engineering graduate also stated that TikTok helped his act go viral and that the importance of TikTok cannot be overemphasized.

What is your educational background?
I’m a graduate of computer engineering and I graduated in flying colours
What made you venture into comedy?
The Love of putting a smile on people’s face
What would you say was your breakthrough moment/story?
For stand up comedy, the comedy club I went to, for a year was really helpful. It helped to get me ready and also my TikTok account that went viral, did help me a lot.
Which big acts in the industry have contributed to your breakthrough and who would you say you see as your role model?
A big thanks to Deeone, he played a vital role in my growth, Destalker, Slk, Bovi, Husband Material, Senator, Funnybone, Untouchable comedies , Oluwa dollarz, have also contributed to my breakthrough.
What inspired the POS gimmick?
Nothing actually, I just did a feature on POS and discovered people loved my role so I decided to do more.
Would you say TikTok is an important factor in your success?
Yes, TikTok played an important role.
Would you describe yourself as more of a content creator or a stand up comedian?
For me, stand up comedy first, I love the act, I create content for fun.
Do you have another source of income?
No, I just do comedy.
Were your family supportive in your decision to venture into comedy as a career?
At the start of my career, my family didn’t like the idea and did all they could to make me stop comedy.
What would you say sets you apart from other comedians in the industry?
My niche, originality and style of comedy, that’s what sets me apart.
Would you say the industry is welcoming or overly competitive?
Is very welcoming and yet very competitive.
