Nigerian Comedian, Francis Agoda, a.k.a I Go Dye has urged government to take advantage of the global achievements of Nigerian artists to support the entertainment industry by creating a conducive environment for it to thrive.
I Go Dye made the remarks on Wednesday on his instagram handle @igodie_ following the recent featuring of some Nigerian musicians by American Singer and actress, Beyonce in her new album ‘’Lion King; the gift.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the artists include Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi and Tekno
“The recent achievement of @wizkidayo being featured by Beyonce and other Artistes is unprecedented should be a motivation to the federal government.
“They should use this opportunity to support entertainment and create a lasting solutions to piracy, developing a sustainable policy that will help to protect intellectual property.
“Entertainment and sport has been able to brand Nigeria in a positive light and it should be encouraged by expanding its reach, creating financial support and incentives to them,’’ he said.
I Go Dye said that the situation where some artistes are faced with health challenges and there was no solution because they don’t enjoy their royalties and health insurance policy should be looked upon.
“Artists in Nigeria only make money from playing shows, Moreover the royalties after a successful album should be managed properly so as to safeguard them against intellectual thefts and abuse.
“Only a few artistes or none is expectant of royalty benefits, which ordinarily should have been accorded all artistes if there was a comprehensive policy to protect the rights and privileges of entertainers.
“If this was done, children of entertainers can enjoy the sweat of their father. Thanks to @beyonce for making the world to know that, there are still millions of talents in Africa undiscovered,’’ he said.
Agoda also thanked wizkidayo for giving hope to the next generation that they can do better.
