American RnB singer, Mary J. Blige, has been told to pay $30,000 (N10,860,000) monthly spousal support to separated husband, Martin Isaacs. According to reports gathered by TMZ, the amount was $100,000 different from the $130,000 he originally sought from the singer.
The magistrate also instructed Blige to pay retroactive support dating back to September and his lawyer’s fees, which amounts to $235, 000.The court was said to have ruled that Isaacs was entitled to the monthly support “to accommodate the standard of living he was used to while married to Mary”.
After 12 years of marriage, the vocalist filed for divorce from Isaacs in 2016.In a radio interview with Angie Martinez earlier this year, Blige clarified what led to her filing for divorce.
According to her: “You start to realize that this man doesn’t want you and he’s just gone all the time and you’re by yourself in the relationship. When you realize you’re by yourself and you’re just suffering through it, now it’s time to do some investigating. When I got the full proof, I didn’t have to investigate it. It just showed up.”
Blige had been unwilling to pay the spousal support, claiming that Isaacs, her former manager, was spending the money on his girlfriend, singer, LaNeah Menzies, whose stage name is Starshell.
