Veteran Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo has declared his intention to run for the office of governor of Enugu state.
Okonkwo declares he has the backing of Sullivan Chime, former governor of the state, in his bid to seek the elective position.
He made the announcement on Instagram, sharing photos of himself alongside other APC party members at a function where he made his declaration to run for office.
“Just declared my intention to contest for the governorship candidate of APC in Enugu state,” he wrote.
“It was heartwarming to receive the blessings of the immediate past Governor of Enugu state, His Excellency, Gov Sullivan Chime. To God be the glory.”
The Living in Bondage actor explained that it would be more difficult for him to win the APC ticket than winning the governorship itself.
“It is easy to win against a non-performing person; it is easy to win somebody whose greatest achievement is billboards and posters.
“We are not talking about refurbishment, we are talking about legacies,” while challenging anybody from Nsukka to point out any legacy project that the current administration has done. “So if it is not done in Nsukka zone where he comes from, I don’t need to ask other zones” he said.
Okonkwo was born in Nsukka Enugu State. In 2013 he won the African Movie Academy Award on a Special Recognition of Pillars of Nollywood.
