Nigerian singer,Onyeka Onwenu fondly called the elegant stallion, has lamented on the spate of nudity and offensiveness in Nigerian music videos. She frowned at the way young ladies flaunt their body in sensual apparels whenever they are featured in music videos.
In an interview with HIP TV, she said: “I feel sad when I watch and see all these videos that should not be shown.
“I hate what they are doing to the women. I hate what the women are doing to themselves – allowing themselves to play such roles. But I am consoled by one thing; the young shall grow. You can start-off singing all these nonsense and shaking ‘bum-bum’ and all that. But there comes a time in your life when you realize that there is more to life and that that talent that is given to you is meant for greater things and that is when you have that switch.
“So, I am watching all these new artistes and hoping that at some point in their lives – in their young lives, they will come to that realization”
Onwenu began her music career in 1981 while still working with the NTA, releasing the album “For the Love of You”. Originally a secular artist, she now sings mainly gospel music, and continues to write and sing about issues such as health (HIV/AIDS), peace and mutual coexistence, respect for women rights and the plight of children.
