Celebrities are not immune to depression, being in the limelight doesn’t stop them from feeling the pangs of depression. In 2011, Nicki Minaj opened up about the depression she felt when she first started out as a performer and had to deal with constant disappointment.
Nigerian actress and singer Stella Damasus took time to talk about how depression affects celebrities in the recent edition of her YouTube series Stella Damasus diaries.
According to her: “Fame is good but sometimes we get tired of it. Sometimes you want to trade places with people. Just go to work in the morning and come back in the evening. Don’t think because someone is popular and you see a million and one people around them, means they are not lonely. Some people just fill up space. Some people just come around you because they want to be identified with you. Some people want something from you; some people want others to see them with you. Not that they really love you or like you for who you are, Not that they are really loyal to you because they like you, they just want to be around you just to be seen with a celebrity .So a famous person can be very lonely.”
Stella also dwells on how difficult it is for celebrities to find true friends. Hear her: ”It’s very difficult for a celebrity to find true friends, people who love them for who they are as people not just because of who they are. So don’t think that they don’t get lonely they do get lonely.”
