Renowned Nigerian singer, Edward Inyang, aka Blackky, has said that he is concerned about the type of lyrics used by the current crop of artistes in the country.
The revered entertainer noted that songs we hear these days are shallow.
Speaking in a chat with Punch, he said: “I am very worried about the content of the music we have now. I am deeply concerned because most the songs we hear these days don’t have souls; they are very shallow. The lyrics are very disturbing because a few of my junior colleague are singing songs that glorify drugs, advance fee fraud and even rituals. They sing about occult ways of making money and this is sending a bad message to the youths. They are practically teaching them that they don’t need to work hard to make money; that they can go into fraud, make human sacrifices and do other unacceptable things. I want my junior colleagues to know that’s not the way to go. Music is a powerful tool and it should be used to elevate and educate the youth and other people out there.”
Asked If he performs at events, Blackky said: “I have been doing a few appearances and performances. I have also been touring and performing at different places but I haven’t recorded a new album in a while. I have been in and out of the studio, working on some new materials though. I am getting new materials ready for my fans.”
