US-based Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has backed out of the agitation for the Republic of Biafra.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is leading a group of agitators seeking secession from Nigeria. The group has since been proscribed by the Nigerian Government.
Over time, the IPOB leader has maintained that members of his group will boycott every election conducted in Nigeria except a referendum is organised for the emergence of Biafra.
Recently, IPOB listed eleven states in Nigeria where the 2019 general elections will not hold.
Days after the IPOB listed the states, Darlington, who had agitated for the Republic of Biafra in the past, has now retracted, citing issues of trust as his reasons.
The controversial singer who is famous for his hit “Banda Dang” explained in a video available on Instagram that he fears if Biafra emerges, a certain group of Igbo people will hijack it.
“What’s up Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB in diaspora and home. Nwanna (brother) what’s up? You know I used to be for Biafra but right now I am not longer for Biafra, you know why? Because I have this fear in me that if it becomes real certain group of Igbo people will hijack it and turn the rest of us into followers,” the US-based Nigerian singer said in the video, citing Imo state a study.
