Cynthia Shalom, dread-lock wearing winner of Next Movie Star is one role interpreter who is gradually making waves in Nollywood via the role she plays.
The bubbly damsel who has worked with the likes of Segun Arinze, Frank Rajah, Desmond Elliot ,Blessing Egbe, Kate Henshaw and others said working without pay is the greatest price she has ever paid for her career.
“The greatest price would be working without pay. We know there are other challenges but we have bills to pay especially when this is a full time job”, She said in a chat with TheNewsGuru.
Speaking of how her childhood influenced her passion for acting, she said: “Growing up was normal, nothing fantastic. I was very committed in church growing up. I joined the drama and choreography unit, I think that helped shape and prepared me for my career”.
The game changer
Shalom experienced a transformation when she won the touted ‘Next Movie Star’ reality TV show.
“Well it was an honour to have won and that meant the people who voted and the judges saw the hard work and talent that spoke for me. As soon as I got out, there were movie jobs already waiting.
The beginning
The management graduate of the University of Port-Harcourt said Segun Arinze was instrumental to her growth in the industry.
“I started training under a director in Port Harcourt until I met Uncle Segun Arinze who became my agent in 2015”.
Opportunities
Cynthia Shalom once said in an interview that bigger actors don’t give younger ones opportunities. However, she stated further that it is gradually changing .
Yes, they do it because of the fear of losing their space. It’s not as bad as it used to be because great talents spring up everyday and it’s truly beyond their control now”.
