For a phone such as the Apple iPhone X billed to start selling from N500k, there must be something, certain features, about it we all need to know.
TheNewsGuru reports Apple on Tuesday unveiling new smartwatches, an Apple TV and the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus at a press event. But what caught attention the most is the premium device Apple called iPhone X, pronounced iPhone 10.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO described the iPhone 10, rather iPhone X, as being nothing short of “the future of the smartphone”.
“The first iPhone revolutionized a decade of technology and changed the world in the process,” Cook stated on stage while unveiling the phone.
“Now, ten years later, it is only fitting that we are here in this place on this day to reveal a product that will set the path for technology for the next decade,” he added.
But, what’s actually with this phone for it to cost that much?
Edge-to-edge display
Literally, the front of the iPhone X is all screen. The display covers the full face of the device, with the exception of a small shard at the top carved out to accommodate the camera. The screen measures 5.8-inches diagonally.
No home button
The secret to getting that full bleed screen is doing away with the home button. Instead, users can swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to the home screen or toggle between apps.
All glass
The iPhone X will have glass on both the front and the back, creating what Apple calls an “all-glass design”. Apple said the glass is “the most durable” ever used in a smartphone so you do not have to worry about the glass breaking.
Face ID
Many of other Apple’s iPhones let you unlock the devices and many apps with a fingerprint, but the iPhone X is offering something different: the ability to unlock by scanning and recognizing your face.
Longer battery life
Apple says the iPhone X has two hours more battery life than the iPhone 7.
Wireless charging
The iPhone X, like the 8 and 8 Plus, will have wireless charging.
Animoji
iPhone X comes with revolutionized emojis known as animoji. Users can now send animated emojis with voice and facial gestures with the new animoji feature on the iPhone X.
The X is silent
Oh! I have mentioned that already, buh I have not mentioned the price is not silent. For a phone priced at more than N500k, that X is not silent at all. Meanwhile, the phone is pronounced “ten,” not “X,” at least according to Apple executives speaking about it on stage.
Fewer colours
The iPhone X comes in just two colours: silver and space grey. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus offer those same colours, as well as gold.
Pre-order: October, Shipping: November
There is a notable delay. While the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will go on sale this month, the iPhone X won’t be available for pre-order until October 27. It is expected to begin shipping by November 3.
Meanwhile, reactions have continued to trail the unveiling of the Apple flagship phone.
