The Association of Resident Doctors, University College Hospital, Ibadan, on Thursday appealed to the management to implement the agreement reached in June with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara.

The President of the association, Dr. Olusegun Olaopa, made the appeal at a news conference in Ibadan.

Olaopa said the agreements reached at the stakeholders meeting which was convened by Dogara in June, had been breached.

He recalled that the Speaker had met with the executives of NARD in June and appealed to them to shelve a proposed strike since an agreement had been reached, and the union obliged.

“The agreement says that there will be an immediate implementation of IPPIS for doctors of the institutions and immediate migration to the platform.

“That entry point for House Officers should be from GL.9 step 4, which should be implemented immediately by the Chief Medical Directors.”

Olaope said that in spite of repeated pleas to ensure enrolment of members on the IPPIS, the Federal Government was yet to make definite and tangible effort to capture members on the payment system.

He said that only doctors in the UCH were paid part salaries in spite of shouldering the greatest bulk of responsibilities in patients care and sustenance of the institution.

According to him, “such unjust practice is inimical to harmony and fair play in any organization.’’

“We demand payment of our full salaries and refund of unjust deductions made from our September salaries, as well as payment of accrued shortfall on our emolument before the end of fiscal year”.

He, however, appealed to the management to prioritize the welfare of workers especially the doctors’ workforce which he said had been at the receiving end of most harsh administrative policies.

He said the association would not tolerate further delay in the employment of resident doctors to fill in vacant spaces in order to reduce the burden on the members of the association.
