Nigeria’s 2017 Budget has raised a lot of eyebrows as many Nigerians have taken to social media to ask questions that are begging for answers.
The Nigerian Senate today held a public hearing on the 2017 Budget, first of its kind, to allow the citizens of the nation weigh-in constructively on ways to improve the appropriations bill.
At the meeting, Senate President, Bukola Saraki said that the public hearing has kept to promise, but Nigerians are still in the dark as to what difference the 2017 Budget stand to make compared to the Budget of other fiscal years, especially as there have been recurring purchase of office equipments and flamboyant spendings in annual budgets.
“In #2017Budget money was allocated to kitchen utensils and computer equipments; what happened to the previous once?” Dozie queried on Twitter.

“With what I have seen and read so far about the #2017Budget, I think it’s just another means of looting so much money,” Dozie added.

While Aliyu hopes the #2017Budget won’t be padded like the one of 2016, the leadership of the National Assembly has assured that the 2017 Budget will be without frivolities.
Innocent Iduh said on Facebook that the 2017 Budget public hearing is a “Good foresight, if only the inputs from the general public will have any effect in the already prepared budget,” adding that “This is just a formality and eye service because the common Nigerians recommendations will not b considered because the presidency will not accept such changes even if the senate accepts them”.
While the first day of the 2017 Budget public hearing has ended, the hearing reconvenes tomorrow Tuesday at 8:30 am to end on Wednesday 15th February 2017.
