The statistics of how electorates in the country voted in the last seven elections have been released.
The figure shows that about 50 million voters were registered in 1999 but just 30 million people voted in the election.
In 2003, the figure jumped up to 61 million registered voters and 42 million voters cast their vote in that year’s election.
The year 2007 saw an increase of two million in the number of registered voters but only 34 million person voted in that year’s election.
2011 witnessed a significant increase in the number of registered voters but just 39 million Nigerian were able to cast their ballot.
2015 figures show that 67 million registered voters had their Permanent Voter Card but only 29 million votes were recorded.
In 2019 82 million voters were registered and just 29 million of them voted in the elections.
In 2023 there are about 93 registered voters and a significant rise in the number of voters is expected.
