Out of the initial 24 teams that started the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, only eight are remaining and will slug it out in the quarter-finals beginning on Friday, February 2nd.
Following the conclusion of the 2023 AFCON round of 16 fixtures, eight teams advanced, paving the way for a thrilling quarter finals. The matches played in the round of 16 were close contests, but the best teams made their way to the quarter finals.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are the ones who get the quarter-finals underway on Friday with a match-up against a dangerous Angola side which cruised past Namibia in the round of 16, while Nigeria got the better of Cameroon.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Super Eagles will take on Angola on Friday at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan at 6.00 p.m.
Ivory Coast will take on Mali after the hosts knocked holders Senegal out on penalties, with the Eagles of Mali defeating Burkina Faso 2-1 to seal quarter-final placement.
DR Congo and Guinea will also slug it out in the quarter-finals for a place in the semi-finals of the competition, after both teams eliminated Egypt and Equatorial Guinea respectively.
DR Congo secured a slim victory against a gritty Egypt on January 28, winning the game via penalty shootout 8-7 after a dramatic 1-1 draw in regular time
TNG reports the quarter final matches are scheduled to run from February 2nd to February 3rd.

1. Nigeria vs Angola (Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, 5 pm)
2. DR Congo vs Guinea (Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan, 8 pm)
Saturday, February 3rd
1. Mali vs Ivory Coast (Stade de la Paix, Bouake, 5 pm)
2. Cape Verde vs South Africa (Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro, 8 pm)
