The Army on Thursday killed more than 50 bandits in hideouts and camps around Ruga forests in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Ibrahim Ahmad Katsina, told journalists on the sidelines of signing of the state’s 2020 budget at the Government House, Katsina that the action followed government’s renewed onslaught against unrepentant bandits.
He added that it was part of efforts to restore security, which had been threatened by kidnappers.
He said: “From 3am the military have been pounding the hideouts of the bandits in Jibia and about 50 of them have been killed.
“I had to tell the governor that we should change tactics this time and go after these bandits to address the spiraling cases of kidnapping the state is experiencing.
“We want to assure the citizens that we are on track to address insecurity.”
When The Nation visited the town on Thursday, there was a military presence, as soldiers were determined to smoke out the remnants of the bandits.
Sources said that gunshots were heard in the night and Army vehicles were seen moving into the forests at Jibia.
