A violent protest by Okada riders erupted in Asaba, Delta State capital, on Monday morning, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe has confirmed.
According to the Delta State Police Public Relations, the Okada riders “had an issue last night with the State task force”, which Edafe disclosed resulted in the death of two persons.
“They mobilised in their numbers this morning, destroying properties and beating people,” the State Police Public Relations said in a post via X (formerly Twitter).
Edafe, meanwhile, confirmed that policemen have been “deployed to control the situation before it turns into something else”.
Videos of the protest in Asaba circulating on social media indicate the Okada riders are protesting around the Okpanam Road axis, Midwifery, in the State capital.
One of the videos reveals a scene where policemen were firing into the air, while another video shows a group of people blocking the road with motorcycles.
