Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday defeated the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, Senate President, Bukola Saraki and nine others in the race for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He emerged after a keenly contested primary held at Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Sunday.
His victory sets him as the main challenger to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general election.
The Chairman of the PDP Convention Committee and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, announced the results of the primary on Sunday morning.
He said Atiku polled 1,532 votes while Aminu Tambuwal polled 693 votes to place second.
