Given health reasons, the presidency has come out to state categorically that President Muhammadu Buhari might not run for a second term in the 2019 general elections.
Media and publicity Special Adviser to President Buhari, Mr. Femi Adesina hinted on this while speaking with Channels TV’s Seun Okinbaloye on Politics Today.
“Nobody can say for sure that he knows that President Buhari will run, because he has not told anybody,” he said.
“In fact, I have been with him a couple of times when some people had come and they had urged him to run. When he responded to those people, he didn’t say anything emphatic about running or not running.
“It will be his right to run if he wants to, and knowing the president as a straightforward person, if he will run, he would come out to tell Nigerians “Yes, I’m going to run””, he further stated.
The presidential aide said, his boss, who is undergoing a mending process in London, is following developments in Nigeria keenly through the media, and that the president is fully aware of ongoing pro and anti-Buhari protests in the country.
TheNewsGuru reports on Monday a cross section of people belonging to the pro-Buhari groups as saying President has not violated any section of the Constitution due to his prolonged medical vacation in London after the anti-Buhari group launched a protest for the president’s resumption or resignation last week.
The president’s aide quoted Buhari as saying he has never been this ill since he was a young man. He, however, refused to state when the president would be back in the country.
“The President I saw was sharp, he was smart, he was lucid. The President I saw was like his old self, almost completely mended.
“But then, like we said in the statement we issued which is what he said to us in the first place, he would come when his doctors say it’s time to go,” he said.
