The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and his deputy, Suleiman Lasun, were both absent at the National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesyerday.
The two lawmakers are reportedly not happy with the party, although the Party National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, related their apologies to members present at the meeting.
Both Dogara and Lasun are currently the highest ranking legislators within the ruling party.
One of the major topics up for discussion is the issue of whether to have direct or indirect primaries for the upcoming elections. This has reportedly caused a rift in the party because several lawmakers favour direct primaries, while the governors want the process of indirect primaries to continue.
It is suspected that Lasun, who lost the APC governorship primary in Osun State, is particularly unhappy with the direct method, which was adopted for the Osun Governorship Primary, where he participated and lost.
