Emmanuel Ogbeche has be sworn-in as the Chairman of the Abuja Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ after a keenly contested election by journalists reporting for various media houses in Nigeria overwhelmingly voted for him in the 2018 NUJ election.
Ogbeche who polled 338 voted to emerge winner defeated his closest rival Rafat Salami with 193 votes. Salami had previously held office as Secretary of the Council before vying for the chairmanship post in the just concluded election.
Other officers of the union who also emerged in the election include Mr Patrick Osadebamwen Vice-Chairman, Mr Ochiaka Ugwu Secretary, Aisha Kadala Financial Secretary and Walter Ukaegbu Auditor.
Osadebemwen defeated Messers Osisam Ede who polled 204 votes to clinch the Vice-Chairmanship position while Aisha Kadala defeated Blessing David who polled 240 votes for the position of Financial Secretary of the NUJ.
The highly elated council chairman who was immediately administered the oath of office and sworn-in had pledged to restore the lost glory of the union and professionalism of the journalism profession in Nigeria.
He also promised to ensure that fake journalist do no find abode in the profession noting that there are many fake journalists in the FCT.
