Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi on Friday night set a new record for Nigerian players in the Premier League after netting in Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 victory against Sheffield United.
Awoniyi lashed on to a cross from Sergier Aurie to nod into the net Forest’s first goal of the encounter inside four minute.
Recall that the former Union Berlin forward was also on target in Forest’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last weekend.
Awoniyi is now the first Nigerian to score in six consecutive Premier League games.
The striker will now look to become the third African player to score in seven consecutive games when Nottingham Forest travel to Old Trafford on Saturday, August 26.
Only Emmanuel Adebayor and Mohammed Salah have achieved the feat.
Last season, Awoniyi finished as Forest top scorer with 10 goals for them to escape relegation.
The player has now scored two goals in two premiership games this season same as Erling Haaland.
