The Kogi State Police Command has debunked media reports of a bomb explosion in Lokoja on Tuesday.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State Edward Egbuka, while briefing journalist on Tuesday afternoon described the purported bomb explosion as reported in the media as hoax.
According to him, when the command was informed of the development, he quickly deployed his men at the bomb disposal unit to the area to ascertain the truth of the matter.
He told journalists that the bomb disposal unit of the Command confirmed that it was a hoax.
The Police Commissioner advised Journalists to always confirm crime related report at their disposal with the police before publication to avoid creating panic in the minds of the people.
According to a media report,an explosion was heard around the office of the Secretary to the State Government at about 8 30 a.m on Tuesday.

Workers in the office of the Secretary to Kogi State Government, Ministry of Women Affairs and Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs had in the morning vacated their various offices following a loud explosion.
The loud explosion was heard at about 8.30 am which send panic to the people in Lokoja, the state capital of Kogi State.
TheNewsGuru reliably gathered that an object which looked like a bomb was planted in the Mosque located at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs premises.
The source disclosed that when this unknown object was discovered calls were put to the security agents who visited the scene for investigation.
The source further added that Some Policemen from Bomb Disposal Unit examined the said object and donated it which make a loud sound as some staff in the ministry and other persons within the vicinity had to take cover to avoid being hit by the particles from the detonated object.
