Ewu Flour Mill, located in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State was on Friday razed down by fire.
The fire raged unabated, destroying the only government establishment the Ishan people benefited from the defunct Bendel State.
The Ewu Flour Mill, originally known as Bendel Feed and Flour Mill (BFFM) is now known as Prime Feed and Flour Mill.
The company was privatised when Edo and Delta States were created from the defunct Bendel State.
In its golden era, the mill was said to have provided thousands of direct and indirect employment for production and management personnel.
European and other Nationals worked and resided in Ewu and it was like having a mini Europe in Esanland.
Its main products, the Ivory Flour and Guinea Feed, were regarded as the best in Nigeria. It operated depots across the regions in Nigeria as far as Sokoto and Maiduguri.
Established in 1984 as part of the economic master plan of Late Prof. Ambrose Alli, former Governor of Bendel State, the Ewu Flour Mill was the economic centre of attraction in the entire Esanland outside the University in Ekpoma.
Operations at the mill, which specialised on providing agricultural machinery, farm, animal feed offering chicken feed, feed mill products and others, came to a halt over 7 years ago.
The buildings in the premises of the moribound flour mill were completely razed.
