A committee has been set up to memorialize late award-winning photojournalist, Yinka Adeparusi.
The committee is tasked to robustly discuss how the Yinka Adeparusi Foundation( YAF) can immortalize late Adeparusi in three core perspectives, namely Media industry, Media institutes and Family.
According to a statement issued by the committee, the mission of the foundation will be to inspire young cinematographer, photojournalist, and journalist in achieving professionalism, creativity, and impacting lives through the power of the lens and pens.
“Yinka Adeparusi Foundation seeks to promote Yinka Ezekiel Adeparusi works in cinematography, Photojournalism and creative writing,” reads part of the statement.
The committee noted that likely activities of the foundation will include annual lecture, exhibition, and seminar and awards dinner.
“The foundation will set out each year to organise public lecture to be handled by seasoned media professionals. Topics of the lecture will be carefully selected by members of the foundation.
There will also be periodic seminar/training in photojournalism, cinematography and new media for students while deserving students will be awarded scholarship,” the statement reads.
Members of the committee include Kola Kasali, Lekan Oluokun, Kemi Agosu, Abosede Oluyede (Sketch), Agboola Odesanya and Kunle Kalejaiye (alumni of Lagos state University). Others are Sadiq Adelakun (Punch), Frank Oshodi, Jerry Wright (Naij.com), Mojeed Alabi (New Telegraph) and Alade Abiodun (Daily Trust) representing the media industry. There will also be representatives from the Adeparusi family in the committee.
Yinka Adeparusi, an award-winning photojournalist, lost his life in an accident, which occurred around Karu in Abuja in November.
Yinka was an award-winning photojournalist who graduated from Lagos State University School of Communication, where he bagged double honours in Photojournalism and Cinematography and minor in mass communication.
Among other awards, Yinka received the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, German Development Media Awards in 2013 and was the winner of the photojournalism award of the 6th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting in 2011.
