Emergency responders have been battling a raging fire at a mechanic village in Mile 2, near the Army Signal Barracks, in Lagos State.

The Zonal Coordinator South-West, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the fire incident on Tuesday in Lagos.

Farinloye said that the fire is believed to be caused by operations of a panel beater welding under a truck.

He added that the mechanic village contained several parked trucks.

“It is alleged to be caused by the careless operations of a panel beater welding under a truck.

”It was alleged that the fire outbreak was not taken seriously initially until it got out of hands,” Farinloye said.

He said that firefighters from both the government side and privately owned were on the ground to assist in containing the fire.

He said that emergency responders on the ground included the Nigeria Ports Authority NPA, Federal Fire Service, LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) and the Lagos State Fire Service.

According to him, others are firefighters from Julius Berger Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc and the Nigerian Army.

He said that there was no life lost to the inferno.

Mile 2 fire incident: No casualty recorded – Lagos Fire Service

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has said no casualty was recorded in the Mile 2 fire incident.

TNG reports Ogabi Olajide, Deputy Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service made this known in a statement while describing the incident as avoidable.

The statement reads: “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is presently combating intense Fire at an articulated Motor Park, Otto Wharf, Mile 2, Lagos which resulted from a diesel tanker that exploded and resulted in inferno. The report which was alerted at 15:44hrs.

“Tuesday saw three Fire Crews of d Agency raised to douse d Fire with copious Chemical Foam Compound with a mixture of Water. Preliminary investigation reveals that d avoidable disaster stem from weildering works on the diesel tanker resulting into explosion and ensued in Fire

“The Fire which involved quite numbers of Tankers, Peddler Trucks, various sizes of storage Tanks and Drums all stocks in AGO. The Public is hereby assured that the situation is under control as the spread of the Fire has been caught and poses no further threat. There is no record of casualty thus far. Further details will be updated as situation demands”.
