…says it’s 1000 Nigerians to a policeman
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun during an interactive session with House of Representatives has revealed that Nigerians are heavily under policed.
The IGP who made this disclosure before members of the House in its sectoral intervention said: “In Nigeria it’s one policeman to 1000 Nigerians and this is a clear indication that we are heavily under policed.
He explained that the force does not have enough men and women to meet the challenging security needs of most Nigerians.
Egbetokun outlined some challenges within the force, including poor logistics provision, insufficient patrol vehicles for police divisions, inadequate training, and poor welfare of personnel.
TNG recalls that insecurity has remained unabated particularly in the northern part of Nigeria as just last week a monarch in Abuja was kidnapped from his palace.
