Dino Melaye the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded Kogi State governorship election has stated reasons he didn’t come out to vote in the election where he was a candidate.
Melaye said that he has seen people win elections from prison in the country.
Melaye came a distant third in the election, with Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) clinching the governorship seat.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Ododo won with 446,237 votes, defeating his closest rival, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who polled 259,052, while Melaye polled 46,362 votes.
There are claims that the former senator may have hampered his chances by refusing to vote during the Saturday poll.
However, the former lawmaker disagreed, saying it doesn’t matter whether he voted or not.
Melaye made this known on Monday while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“The issue of voting or not voting has no legal status. People win elections in prison. Legally, it has no relevance to the election. Whether I voted or not, it is immaterial.”
