The Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation, Mr Muminu Badmus, on Friday said the corporation would start metering of houses for water consumption by February 2017.
Badmus spoke at the Corporation’s end of year news conference in Lagos, projecting that some 16,000 meters would be installed in houses in 2017.
According to him, the metering of houses will start in seven zones of the state.
“The seven zones are Surulere, Itire, Yaba-Ebute Metta-Iwaya zones and Victoria Island, Victoria Island Annex and parts of Lekki Phase 1.
“These zones are undergoing rehabilitation and Expansion of Distribution Network under the loan of National Urban Water Sector Reform Project (2NUWSRP).
“The State is currently running an Infrastructure Support Project with Lagos Water Corporation being the executing agency under the loan,’’ he said.
Badmus said that the Infrastructure Support Project was being managed by the Corporation’s Projects Implementation Unit.
He said that the metering of houses in the zones would clear the confusion on how much water the houses were getting.
Badmus said that it would also address the claim of some residents of not getting water in their area at all.
He said that it would also help in the residents’ usage of water as there was a lot of water wastage in the system.
The managing director said that once the metering started it would be completed within three months.
