A lawyer and social critic, Inibehe Effiong has knocked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allowing a long motorcade follow him to his Ikoyi residence in Lagos upon arrival from the United Kingdom.
According to Effiong, it’s absurd for the president to give approval to a long motorcade.
Effiong claimed that Tinubu should have insisted on reducing the vehicles, noting that the action was “a reminder that the political class is not ready to make the sacrifices which they expect from citizens”.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday after his visit to London and participation at the Paris Finance Summit.
However, the President’s arrival quickly became a spectacle of some sort with long convoy that accompanied him to his private residence.
In a video making the rounds online, which was captured by a roadside admirer, multiple SUVs were seen speeding ahead and behind the president’s official car.
But in a statement via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, Effiong alleged that fuel subsidy was removed to save cost, but limited resources were being wasted on frivolity.
Part of the statement read: “Mr. Bola Tinubu’s convoy in Lagos is another reminder that the political class is not ready to make the sacrifices which they expect from citizens.
“A nation that has a devastating debt burden shouldn’t be run this way. Those defending the monstrous convoy don’t wish Nigeria well.”
