More troubles have come the way of Abdullahi Maje the embattled present Council Chairman of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State as the petitioner Adamu Usman of the People’s Democratic Party seals deal with the Coalition of Civil Society and NGOs to insist on justice.
Adamu in a press statement in Suleja jointly signed by him and some support groups regretted the delay in justice in line with the local government election laws of Niger state.
He recalled his affidavit of which according to him will never relent in seeking justice insisting that the 30th November 2019 Local Government Council Election of Chairmanship and Councillorship of Niger State by law clearly provide that a candidate can only be returned as having worn the Chairmanship position of Suleja LG Council if he is qualified to contest the election and upon the majority of the lawful vote cast in the election in compliance with the law of which was in that scenario fraught with several violations.
The petitioner in the company of PDP leadership of Suleja alongside some concerned Civil Society groups and other key stakeholders maintained that the need to join forces has become imperative at the moment to set records straight so as to save the electoral process and reflect the wishes of the people.
It will be recalled that the embattled Local Government Chairman Abdullahi Maje has been in the news recently over the alleged mandate which was illegally acquired against the the popular wish of the people. The key issue by the petitioner is in respect of the qualification of Maje the first respondent to contest the 3rd November 2019 local government area election of Niger State which was premised on his noncompliance with the laws and guidelines of Niger state Independent Electoral Commission which as earlier states and which are a precondition for qualification to contest the said election.
The Leader of the Coalition Mr. Idris Ibrahim stated that nay, Abdullahi Maje has no validly nominated running mate as vice-chairman as required by law and that Affidavit to this as support document to other existing pieces of evidence was tendered beyond reasonable doubts.
Amidst the flurry of petitions which have increased in volumes recently, the attention of the electoral Panel was brought to the fact that all vote purportedly awarded to Maje the 1st respondent was wasted due to lack of his qualification to contest the chairmanship position of Suleja local government in the said election,
The Civil society who issued a press statement recently in Suleja argued further that it has conducted several independent investigations to validate the claims of other petitioners that the said Maje was not duly elected by the majority of the valid lawful votes cast at the election, It went further to appeal to Judiciary which according to him is the last hope of the common man to restore the Chairmanship position to the rightful owner which is Adamu Usman and Husscini Abdul Ladan his running mate.
He condemned such erosion of justice as an infraction which was tantamount to the aberration of due process and injurious to the kind of foundation that every good governance harken to in our Democratic journey. It also stated that the Local government is the only level of governance when modeled towards honesty and armed with the provisions of law, will positively affect other tiers of government for quality representation.
It will be recalled that several petitions have trailed the election in which other petitioners prayed the tribunal to among other things determine the truth behind this claim of noncompliance with the provision of the Niger State Local government election law of 2002 (As amended).
The strength of law according to them in this context is given that the lawful vote for the election goes to the petitioner being the qualified credible and entitled to be returned as winner of the said election. Some support documents were hauled into the claim by both some of these petitioners and Civil Societies with a long list of witnesses in which it was discovered that litany of evidence deduced but the petitioner on the above is overwhelming uncontroverted and credible. However, the Coalition has appealed to Governor Bello and the State Independent Electoral Commission to also write their name in gold by promoting justice through respecting the wishes of the people.
It also concludes by calling on all the agencies and organizations where Maje engage as a stakeholder in the state to ignore him and treat him as an impostor in the state and urged them to rise up to the unquenchable appetite and lost for power by Maje’s vaulting ambition to lay false claim as the Council Boss. It also appealed to the Inspector General of Police to keep eyes on Maje and duly investigate such legitimacy to avert any unforeseen consequences, he concluded.
