The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has threatened to sue the former Aviation minister, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode and media aide to Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Lere Olayinka over their comments linking him to the seized N15 billion in Ikoyi.
Amaechi also demanded a public apology from Fani-Kayode and Olayinka or payment of the sum of N1.25bn and N750m respectively.
In a letter by his lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Amaechi claimed that comments made by the two men on their Twitter handles defamed him.
Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode has said that he is not losing any sleep over the matter, adding that his lawyers will respond accordingly.
The former minister in a terse statement by his Special Advisor on media, Jude Ndukwe, noted that:
“We have been inundated with calls concerning about a threat by Rotimi Amaechi to sue Chief Fani-Kayode for defamation over the 43 million USD issue. We are not any sleep over this matter.
We have not received any court processes or letters from Ameachi but when we do so our lawyers will respond vigorously and appropiately. Thank you”
The $43.5m, £27, 800, and N23 million recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from an apartment located at Flat 7B, No 13 Osborne Road, Ikoyi Lagos have been a subject of controversy with recent reports linking the funds to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
The former Rivers State governor quoted Fani-Kayode and Olayinka as saying that “Amaechi bought two of the flats (7A and 7B). He then gave 7A to Mo Abdul, the TV presenter, who is suspected to be his girlfriend. But the flat where the money was found belong (sic) to Rotimi Amaechi. This is believed to be cash kept for 2019 elections. Let’s see how the cover-up game goes.”
