The National Boundary Commission (NBC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience (OSPRE)/National Center for the Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanisms.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the MoU, which is in a bid to have harmonious and peaceful coexistence among neighbouring countries, was signed on Thursday at the NBC’s Corporate Headquarters, Abuja.
According to a statement by the commission, this development will foster promotion of peace and harmonious coexistence between Nigeria and her neighbours, between constituent States of the Federation as well as local government and communities.
“The signing ceremony is a demonstration of the Parties commitment to developing and implementing common Projects promoting peace and public safety within Nigeria and between Nigeria and her neighbours,” the statement reads.
The MoU, TNG learnt, is also expected to significantly lead to the reduction of insecurity within Nigeria as well as around the international borders of the country.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Director General of the NBC, Surv. Adamu Adaji noted that peace and stability is the bedrock of economic development of any nation.
Surv. Adaji went further to say the synergy between the Agencies is an indication that government is poised to addressing the problem of insecurity facing the country and restoring peace which, he said will lead to increased economic advancement.
Adaji stated that the collaboration is in consonance with the key mandate of the Commission to determine, intervene and deal with any boundary dispute that arise within and between Nigeria and her neighbours with a view to settling such disputes.
He further stated that capitalising on combined expertise and shared data between the sister Agencies has the potential of advancing the progress of transborder cooperation which will positively impact the nation’s economy.
In his remarks, the Director-General of OSPRE, Mr. Chris Ngwodo during the signing of the MoU averred that working with the NBC is a clear pathway of promoting peace and development.
According to him, providing timely and accurate data and analysis will enhance national and regional crisis prevention and response capacities.
