News Express appoints Ex-Abia Commissioner, Nwokocha as Managing Editor, Nation’s Capital

The News Express Media Group, has announced the appointment of Honourable John Anozie Nwokocha as Managing Editor, Nation’s Capital.

Nwokocha, a former Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Abia State, is a multiple merit awards winner in the field of journalism and mass communication.

A distinguished prose writer, Nwokocha started his career in journalism in 1992 at Vanguard Newspapers Ltd, Lagos, where he did his one year mandatory national youth service under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. He was retained by Vanguard Media Ltd for distinguished performance after the exercise, out of the 13 youth corps members that were posted to serve in the organisation for their primary assignment.

While in Vanguard media, between 1992 and 2009, he worked in various beats such as Politics, Foreign or International, Magazine writing, Aviation, Business and General Features writing in the Sunday Vanguard. He initiated some of the best-selling products of the title such as BREAKTHROUGH – The story of a Self-Made Man who rose from grass to greatness; and ADVICE PAPA GAME ME – another magazine product about success story of eminent Nigerians who shared their inspirational stories of visions on Nigeria of their dream. For several years, Nwokocha anchored the VISTA Magazine of the title. From a staff writer he rose to senior editor before he was appointed into the Executive Council of Abia State Government.

At various times, Nwokocha was General Manager, Special Publication and Member, Editorial Board of Leadership Newspapers, Abuja. He was appointed Editor, Nigerian Pilot Newspapers, Abuja, where, from his wealth of experience, he introduced many best-selling products that saw to the rebranding of the newspaper and ultimately, positive changes.

He worked for a brief stint as Executive Director Operations at Vision 92.1 FM radio Abuja, and General Editor (Politics) and Member, Editorial Board of Blueprint Newspapers, Abuja.

A consummate communications strategy consultant and a thorough production specialist, Nwokocha is the story behind the Nigeria Royal Mail, Abuja Business Magazine and This Week Magazine in Katsina State.

In 2012, he was awarded Pillar of Mass Communications by the Abia State University, Uturu. In 2009, Nwokocha was awarded The Best Commissioner for Information, by Uturu Annual International Cultural Festival (Gregory University, Uturu).

Also, in 2009, Nwokocha was listed in the prestigious WHO IS WHO IN NIGERIA of that year’s edition, on merit by dint of his hard work.

Nwokocha has attended professional and academic courses in Nigeria and abroad. He possess Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy BA (Hons) from Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti, now Ekiti State University, Master of Philosophy (MA), obtained from University of Lagos, Post-Graduate Diploma In Journalism, from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism Ogba, Lagos and Master of Mass Communication (MSc), obtained from Lagos State University, Ojo, in 2004.

Nwokocha, in the course of his career has travelled widely across the world. He has visited Poland, England (UK), South Africa (Johannesburg and Kwazulu-Natal), Ghana (Accra), and Benin Republic.

He is married to his beautiful wife, Princess Agatha Uju, and they have four lovely and gifted children.

By this appointment, Nwokocha is coming on board with his vast experience to add fillip to the operations and progress of News Express Media Group.
