A second Republic Senator, Spanner Francis Okpozo has died in Benin City the Edo State Capital after a brief illness at the age of 81 years.
The eldest son of the deceased, Edgar Okpozo, who spoke with the TheNewsGuru.com in a phone interview confirmed the death.
He said his father died after a brief illness at an undisclosed private hospital in Benin City on Monday after he was earlier discharged from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where he was receiving treatment.
Late Senator Okpozo had been battling with an undisclosed ailment.
He was one of the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta state.
According to Edgar, the sad incident occurred at about 7.00pm Monday night in Benin City, Edo State four days after he was discharged from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
Our correspondent who visited the septuagenarian while still hospitalised at the UBTH reports that he was looking pale, with friends and family members at his side.
Among the visitors who came in on Thursday, a day before he was discharged from the UBTH, where the family of the deceased claim he was not improving from all indication includes the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo North senatorial candidate, Hon. Pascal Ugbomeh amongst others.
The visit to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the UBTH by several notable personalities in the past one week was an indication that a prominent citizen of the country was hospitalised in the VIP ward.
However, the sudden request for discharge of the elder statesman by his family could be largely due to their fear following what they described as his worsening health condition at the UBTH and no sign of been able to diagnose what he was suffering from at the UBTH.
The late Okpozo was transferred from the UBTH on Friday upon his family’s request but passed on Monday evening at a private hospital.
