In a bid to upgrade the learning environment of their alma mater, old students of Onike Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos, class of 95, has refurbished the staff room for teachers while assuring to initiate other bigger projects in the school in the nearest future.
The newly renovated staff room was handed over to the school authority at the weekend by the ‘old girls’ [Alumni’s of the school] as they are fondly called.
Speaking, on behalf of the teachers, the principal, Mrs Modupe Aribisala, thanked the former students for remembering their alma mater.
She said that although the Lagos State Government is making a lot of efforts to support education in the state, the challenges in the sector should not be abandoned to government alone.
She encouraged the larger body of the Old Girls Association of Onike Girls, to emulate the example of the Class of 95, by assisting with the other needs in the school.
Similarly, current students of the school were excited to receive their “old girls” who visited them, wearing their school uniforms.
According to the ‘old girls’ who tasked themselves to raise the funds needed to actualise the newly refurbished staff room, the project is to ensure teachers plan their lessons and do other administrative work to better improve the lives of students.
