In further reaction to the #iStandWithNigeria protests that held in major cities of Nigeria, the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said the recession presently ravaging the country will soon be a matter for historical deliberations.
Acting President Osinbajo made this known at the Presidential Villa, Abuja today.
Angered by the socio-economic situation of the country, youths in their thousands stormed the streets of Nigeria yesterday to protest against bad leadership that has sprung the nation into recession.
“I commend the IG and his officers for handling the protests with professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens,” Osinbajo said.
Yesterday, the Acting President in an immediate response to the protesters, said that the Presidency have heard the protesters loud and clear.
Today, Osinbajo went further to saying “We are committed to a continuous engagement with our people to explain government policies, receive advice and criticism”.
He also said, “Cabinet Ministers have gone round 8 States so far holding town hall meetings,” adding that “the most recent was yesterday in Ilorin” and that “there will be more of such meetings in the other States that are yet to be visited”.
“With complete focus on improving the economy every day, the recession will soon be history,” Acting President Osinbajo said.
Meanwhile, the Acting President has said that he has reported the present situation of the country to his superior, President Muhammadu Buhari, who has been on vacation in the United Kingdom (UK) for the past two weeks.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari is now aware of the protests on ground in his country.
