A lawmaker in Osun, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has commiserated with victims of last Thursday’s accidental air bombing at the Rann IDP camp in Borno.
Oyintiloye, a member of Osun House of Assembly, made the appeal in a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday.
He urged the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate the incident, saying the death of innocent civilians was painful and regrettable.
The lawmaker, who commiserated with the people and government of Borno over the incident, prayed for the quick recovery of those who sustained injuries.
Oyintiloye, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, however, urged the Nigeria Air Force and the army not to allow the incident to dampen their morale in the fight against insurgency.
He also advised the Federal Government to investigate the incident and put measures in place to prevent a recurrence.
Oyintiloye (APC-Obokun Constituency) said the victory of the army in clearing the Sambisa forest-hideout of the Boko Haram insurgents was a strong signal that the end of the terror group had come.
While commending Nigerian troops for their sacrifices in protecting the territorial integrity of the country, he urged them to sustain the campaign against the remnants of the sect.
“The accidental bombing of IDP camp in Rann in which innocent civilians lost their lives is regrettable.
“It is my prayer that God will console the families of the victims.
“I want to commend the military for their efforts in bringing lasting peace to the nation.
“But they should always coordinate their operational strategy well to avoid this kind of sad occurrence again,’’ he said.
Oyintiloye, also called on the government to provide necessary relief to those critically injured and the families of those who died.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) recalls that a fighter jet in the counter-insurgency operation in the North-East Zone on Jan. 17 dropped a bomb on the IDP camp, leaving several people dead and others injured.
