Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, Bishop of Rome and sovereign of the Vatican City State, has expressed concern and raised alarm over the increased kidnapping rate in Nigeria.
The Pope made this known via his X account (formerly known as twitter), where he said, “The increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria are extremely concerning.
I express my closeness in prayer to the Nigerian people, hoping that efforts will be made to contain the spread of these incidents as much as possible.”
Many Nigerians reacted to the message, some thanking the Pope for his kind words and claiming that he showed more concern than the government.
However, some said he should keep his concern to himself if he couldn’t do more than offer prayers, claiming that whenever things involve Nigeria and Africa at large, they only offer prayers and not support.
