The Chicago State University has complied with an order from a United States District Court in Northern Illinois, to release President Bola Tinubu’s academic records.
On Tuesday 3 October, the university’s registrar, Caleb Westberg, provided a deposition at the court, which offered detailed insights into the documents mandated for release to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 25 February presidential election.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) has acquired a certified copy of this deposition, capturing an extensive and rigorous interrogation of Mr. Westberg by Atiku’s legal team led by Angela Liu.
During interrogation, Westberg, who was represented by Michael Hayes, confirmed his responsibilities as the school’s Registrar include managing all policies and procedures for the University, as well as maintaining records.
One of the central themes of Mr. Hayes’ testimony revolved around the authentication of President Tinubu’s academic documents, but the University said that it does not have a true and correct copy of the diploma issued to Bola Tinubu in 1979, after going through its records.
“We did not find any diploma issued by CSU in 1979 to Mr. Tinubu,” Hayes said, adding “We have the June 27, 1979 diploma. It is a reordered copy.”
However, the University admitted it had retained copies of some diplomas of other former students who graduated about the same time as President Tinubu but did not pick it up their certificates.
Responding to questions on the diploma certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hayes affirmed the date of issuance as June 22, 1979, but noted that CSU did not have a Board of Trustees during that year.
He also identified one of the signatures on the diploma as that of “Elnora Daniel”, but admitted that she was not the President of CSU in 1979. She was the President from 1998 to 2008.
Additionally, the name “Herbert A. Conley” appeared on the document, although it was partially cut off, and Hayes testified that Herbert A. Conley was not Dean in 1979.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of PDP said during a World Press Conference held on Thursday that he would not back down on challenging the outcome of the February 25th election at the Supreme Court.
“I will only drop the fight when the court rules. At the moment we’re at the Supreme Court and there is no other court than the Supreme Court,” he said.
