The Nigeria Senate today confirmed the appointment of Mr. Shaakaa K. Chira as the Auditor-General for the Federation following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Senate also approved the appointment of seven Resident Electoral Commissioners who appeared before it for screening out of the ten nominees submitted by Mr. President.
The approved RECs are Mr. Etekamba Umoren (Akwa-Ibom); Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeaken (Edo); Barr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola (Ekiti), Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Ma’aii (Gombe); Mr. Shehu Wahab (Kwara); Mr. Aminu Kasimi Idris (Nasarawa) and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq (Niger).
In giving the Senate’s confirmation, Senator Godswill Akpabio said, “the nominees, having answered questions bothering on auditing and electoral issues respectively, the Senate hereby confirmed your appointment in accordance with the provision of Section 86 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended).
The confirmation was, however, sequel to a voice vote in which the majority of the lawmakers voted in favour during the Committee of the Whole.
