The Sokoto state leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria otherwise known as Shi’ite, Malam Kasim Umar has appealed for the immediate release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky on ground of his deteriorating health.
Addressing newsmen on Saturday, he said Zakzaky was in dire need of medical attention.
He cited example with the medical vacation of President Muhammad Buhari in London.
“It is confirmed that Malam health is deteriorating by the day. He lost his one eye and even the second eye is affected that if left unattended to he can loss it as well, “he pointed out.
Umar added:”The gunshot injury he sustained on one of his leg during the Military clamp down in 2015 is still there. I am therefore appealing to the acting President who is a pastor and a renowned lawyer to release Malam as ordered by the Court for him to be properly checked and treated’’.
On the purported plan by the federal government to release Zakzaky to the Kaduna state government for prosecution, Umar expressed fear that he would not be given fair treatment, especially that as they were planning to charge him based on alleged offences committed over 30 years ago.
He appealed to the International human right groups and the countries at the fore front fighting human rights issues to compel the federal government to obey the court’s order and release their leader.
