Three auto mechanics, who allegedly robbed a man of his Toyota Camry saloon car valued at N2.7 million with a toy gun, were on Monday remanded in prison on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused are: Nelson Fidelis, 41; Emmanuel Ogbara, 45; and Mathew Ogbara, 36.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, who gave the ruling, said the trio should be kept behind bars at Kirikiri Prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The accused, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.
Earlier Police Prosecutor Michael Unah told the court that the accused with others now at large committed the offences sometime in April at Meiran in Lagos.
He alleged the accused robbed the complainant, Mr Ehigiator Ehigie, of his Toyota Camry car with registration no. KJA 57 CZ valued at N2.7 million with a toy gun and other dangerous weapons.
“The complainant reported the case at Meiran Police Station after he was robbed.
“The police arrested the accused and recovered the stolen vehicle after two months,’’ Unah told the court.
The offences contravened Sections 297 (2) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 prescribes 21 years jail term for robbery, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 13.
