Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has suspended Spanish Football Association (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales from football-related activities for ninety days after he kissed Jenni Hermoso at the Women’s World Cup final.
This is coming less than a day after Rubiales said at a press conference on Friday that he would not resign his position in the face of criticism for kissing Hermoso on the lips.
According to FIFA, Rubiales will stay off football related activities for 90 days pending when investigation would be concluded.
Recall that many female and male players like Borja Iglesias and David de Gea spoke out against Rubiales’ conduct.
They also called for him to quit his role, and now FIFA’s own disciplinary committee has acted.
As part of this latest sanction, Rubiales has been told he must “refrain, through himself or third parties, from contacting or attempting to contact the professional player of the Spanish national football team Ms. Jennifer Hermoso or her close environment.”
FIFA’s statement added: “FIFA reiterates its absolute commitment to respect the integrity of all persons and therefore condemns with the utmost vigour any behaviour to the contrary.”
